MOP
The Municipality of Platanias was established in 2011 under the “Kallikratis” administrative reform law and is located in north-western Crete, in the Chania Regional Unit, constituting one of the largest and most important municipalities on the island. It consists of four municipal units (Platanias, Kolymvari, Voukolies and Mousouroi). The Municipality is one of the major tourist destinations in Crete and it has a strong and productive agricultural sector.

Ioannis (John) Malandrakis
Ioannis (John) Malandrakis is the Mayor of Platanias since 2011 after four elections. He holds a BSc in business Administration (UoP), and a MBA (TUC). He has experience as an Executive for the Bank Of Greece, and for Organsation of Telecommunication of Greece (OTE) . He is certified trainer in adult education, at fields like public finance, administration nd communication. A contributor to training and labor market reintegration and lecturer. Member of council for many organisation and Municipality Unions.
Chariton Bobolakis
Chariton Bobolakis is the Deputy Municipal Councilor responsible for Information
Technology, Strategic Planning, and European Programs at the Municipality of Platanias. He
holds undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Tourism Management, as well as a
Master’s degree in e-learning and in Tourism Business Administration. At the same time, he
works as a computer science teacher and as an adult educator in the fields of information
technology and tourism.
Lia Nikolaou
Lia Nikolaou is the general secretary at MoP since 2024.She holds a BSc in Physics (National Kapodistrian University of Athens - NKUA), MSc in Energy Production & Management (National Technical University of Athens - NTUA) PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems (TUC). She has experience as Advisor at Ministry of Environment and Energy and special scientific advisor for Organisation for the Development of Crete. Lia is a postdoctoral researcher and scientific associate for Technical University of Crete, lecturer, an author and reviewer of scientific works and speaker at international conferences.
Olga Bertsoulaki
Olga Bertsoulaki is the Head of the Department of Programming, Organization and IT at the MoP since 2014. She is a Production and Management Engineer with a Master’s degree in Organization and Management and a PhD in optimal waste management and routing optimization for collection. Her academic research in waste management combined with extensive professional experience provides valuable, practical insights to the project.
Nikolaos A. Kyriakakis
Nikolaos A. Kyriakakis is a Production and Management Engineer at the Department of Programming, Organization & IT, Municipality of Platanias. He holds a Master’s degree in Operations Research and a PhD in Logistics. His combined academic, public-sector, and private-industry experience brings a blend of perspectives to the twin transition transformation.
Markos Malandrakis
Markos Malandrakis is Colleague of MoP for project skillRessillience4EU. He isa Civil Engineer, a Quality Assurance Auditor (IRCA). He has exeprience in private sector for many years as project manager for construction and telecommunication Projects. He had been an entrepreneur and a co owner of Telecom Infrustructures Company. He has experience in public sector as special assistant for Mayor of Platanias, as technical consultant for waste management company and finally being a team member for Horizon and interreg EU Projects.
